Hi all

Jake Whitaker takes pleasure in inviting you to the first 125ccc Youth Moto Trials Training Camp.  Team Whitaker is hard at it in fundraising for Jake to get him to the 2011 World Trials Championship where he will contest the Junior Class with Top Trial Team in Italy.

Jake is the only one in New Zealand with the best experience on a 125cc to pass on his knowledge to the up and coming youth of today after his experience in 2008 when he competed against the best in the world in the 125cc class.

125cc is a stepping stone in your youth moto trials development and will make you a better rider when you step up on the bigger cc bikes.  It takes a lot more effort to ride a 125cc bike and Jake is the right person to teach this.  Jake is not only a great rider but has a very friendly likable personality which will be an asset to you all at this camp.

Fundraising for the 2011 World Trials Championship details:

          To All Fellow Trial Riders,

As most of you all know, in 2008 I completed a full World Championship season riding alongside the Italian Future Trial Racing Team, with the help of Karl Clark as minder/mechanic, in which I competed in Europe, America and Japan.  At the end of the season I had a world ranking of 10th in the youth 125cc under 18 class.

In 2011 Karl and I plan to return to the World Championship scene in Europe. My ambition is to contest in the 2011 World Championship as well as retaining my New Zealand, Australian and Oceania titles if possible.  We will be going at the beginning of May 2011 and we will be based in Florence, Italy and we will ride as part of the Top Trial Team.  We will be based there for three months.

It isn’t an easy process trying to find a major sponsor and there is a lot of behind the scene organising to do.  With support from Karl (minder/mechanic) who is familiar with the European scene from 2008, Georgina (Manager), Debbie (Co-Manager) and my parents Pat and Michelle I am fortunate to have a fantastic team on board that is willing to help out in any way possible.

To make this all possible the team need to raise $70,000 to be able cover the cost of joining the Top Trial Team.  Depending on how much I am able to raise will determine the length of time we will spend overseas and how many events I will participate in. If we are only able to raise a part of this amount then we would be looking at competing in a selection of world championship events.   This would also give me a decent head start for the following year in 2012, as I would be well prepared and aware of the challenges that I will face and the competition I will be up against, also if all goes to plan some great results.  This will also put New Zealand on the map in the world scene of trials and will make it easier for the up and coming youth to participate in teams overseas in the future.

I would appreciate your support to help me compete against the world best in 2011 and would appreciate any donations you could give.  If you would like to help us out in sending myself and Karl to Europe for the 2011 season you can contact me any time by mail, phone or email.

If you wish to deposit a donation direct, here are my bank details:
Account Name: Jake Whitaker Fundraising AccountAccount No: 12 3142 0136556 01

I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my sponsorship appeal and to help me make it possible to achieve my dream of being world number one.
Kind Regards

The club was involved with Biketoberfest again this year and put on a display outside George Henry in Manchester St.

The Highlight of the display was the sidechair outfit riden by Andy Beale and Kendal McDonald. Unfortunately after a small "off" they had to retire with broken spokes and a buckled front wheel.

I also crashed out and broke a footpeg but luckily for me no-one got a photo of that embarassing moment.

Not so for the Sidechair boys..............

Hey Guys,

Ended the year on an awesome note this long weekend winning my 4th New Zealand 3 day title, down In Christchurch. I headed down south last Thursday with my Minder Nick so I could have a practice on Friday to get use to the conditions and the terrain down that way. Turned out that the area we were training in was perfect practice for Saturday’s competition with slippery creek beds and muddy climbs.

I really enjoyed my riding all weekend and felt I was riding well, I won three out of the 3 days, which made things a lot more pleasant over the weekend compared to last years champs were I left it to the last day on the last few sections to retain my title, So this year I was a lot more relaxed and confident in my riding especially after day ones result.

The sections I feel were set at a good consistent level for a New Zealand Championship with a few testing sections on each of the days, I enjoyed Sundays trial the best with majority of the sections set on a hill side with big grippe rocks everywhere, I enjoy this kind of riding the most but still enjoyed the slippery venues on Saturday and Monday. I feel that I have improved tremendously this season with my riding in the slippery conditions which I am really pleased with as in the past this has always been one of my week areas.

This year has been a really big and successful year for me and I’m really happy how it has all paned out, I have achieved everything I set out to do at the beginning of the season and now looking at bigger and greater things to accomplish in the new year, hopefully I can return to Europe for the Junior World Championship. However as always the major issue is a lack of funds, over the next few week’s we will be working extremely hard with more sponsorship attempts to help achieve this goal.

A really big thanks to everyone who has helped made this year possible including my sponsors,

Hutt Boyz Choppers, Spectro Oils, Pro Grip, NGK,DID, Kaos trials team, Kapiti Beta and good old Mum and Dad.

Also a special thanks to Nick Ball my minder throughout the season in all events, he has done such an awesome job and we have worked so well together having some good laughs along the way, so thanks for your support mate you played a big part in helping with my success this year.

Bye for now,

Jake Whitaker

Well what can I say…..  what a fantastic weekend all round.  An awesome event made possible by all the Pioneer Club members and supporters.  The weekend was held over Queens Birthday Weekend in Christchurch.  A great turn out of riders, 72 to be exact.  A good job to all those riders who competed, and congratulations on those who took out placing’s.

Day one was held in Living Springs just out of Lyttelton, a great we spot tucked away in the valley.  As the sun was beaming down I think that most riders (observers and spectators) were glad that the majority of the sections were in under the shelter of the trees.

In Expert Class Jake Whitaker showed he was still number one in New Zealand to take out day one with ease, Marlborough Trials Centre Rider Karl Clark took out second place and Matt Foster in third place. A big effort from Matt Foster who stepped up from A Grade to Expert Class for the his first time as he is looking compete in Expert next year.

A Grade - Nick Oliver who showed great consistency to take out the win and second placing was fought hard between Jim Lowe-Pattie and Carl Robson with only one point difference but Jim Lowe-Pattie came away with the advantage of that one point giving him second place and Carl Robson third.

Intermediate class was also fought closely by the top three placing’s with only one point difference between them.    Montesa mounted Pete Oliver was first, Mark Ferguson second and Glenn Smith third.Clubman riders also had hot contention for the top three placing’s.  Daniel Clark taking out first place, Nigel Shilton in Second and Gavin Fox in third.Junior grade was won by Liam Draper, closely followed by Brady Inwood and third to Ben McLeod.President Grade was the second largest class over the weekend.  First place was Steve Oliver from Nelson, with the North Islanders Paul McLeod taking second and third place to Kevin Tither.

Day two was held at Horsford Downs just outside Rangiora, a little overcast but still very warm.

Expert Class was won by Jake Whitaker well done Jake on getting a clean second lap, second place to Karl Clark who had another strong ride and third place to Matt Foster.

A Grade rider Nick Oliver came first and it was battled hard for second place again with two riders finishing on equal points, but in the end a good ride by Brad Hibbs took out second place and Jim Lowe-Pattie third.

Intermediate riders were evenly spread for placing’s, Pete Oliver took out first place with a 12 point lead over Glenn Smith who came second and Mark Ferguson in third.Clubman grade was closely fought again and with Gavin Fox taking out first place, Danny Spencer in second and Daniel Clark in third, these placing’s were going to make it interesting going into the last day.Junior class was so close that the top three riders all finished on zero points.  Good ride by them all.  So in the end Brady Inwood, Ben McLeod and Liam Draper were all given first place points.  This also made it very interesting going into the last day.President Grade was won by Steve Oliver on one point for the day and second on 13 points to local rider Ross Bristol and Brendan Wadsworth in third with 15 points.

Day three was held at Graylees Road, another property tucked away with a good variety of sections.  Extremely hot with a lot of people most likely leaving with sunburn, I know I did, ouch not pleasant.

In Expert  grade Jake Whitaker took out the win again with spectators getting in on the action, Karl Clark in second and Matt Foster in third.

A Grade was evenly spread with Nick Oliver on 42 points to take the win, Jim Lowe-Pattie second on 55 points and Brad Hibbs third on 76 points.

Intermediate grade rider Pete Oliver got his third win for the weekend with another local rider Glenn Smith in second and Nelson rider Tony Cameron who just returned to the sport after a lengthy absence in third place.Clubman grade was going to be a tight grade going into this day but Daniel Clark took out this days win by one point, second going to Gavin Fox and third to Nigel Shilton.Junior grade was also going to be tough competition for day three but Liam Draper came away with the win, Brady Inwood second and Ben McLeod in third.President grade rider Steve Oliver got his third win and second place again was close with one point in it but at the days end Brendan Wadsworth came in second and John Lawton in third. Another fantastic event! Hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Remember about the next South Island Championship on the 13 & 14 November, hope you all can make it. Look forward to seeing you again then. Until then, as we say

Hi there - I have a huge number of shots up from the weekend. They are for sale (not free) but I had a lot of riders ask where they could be bought from so I said I'd let the organisers have the info so.........

The gallery of fully processed photos is at http://www.nzsnaps.com/Motorsport/Motorbike-Trials/2010-NZ-Motorbike-Trials/14333298_qciR6 and the gallery of unprocessed photos is at http://www.nzsnaps.com/Motorsport/Unprocessed-Event-Images/UNPROCESSED-2010-NZ-Motorbike/14333098_QQW9e .

I will process the unprocessed images if someone buys them before sending them out. In most cases I can make them look a lot better.

Cheers

Neil Gardner

I have already checked out the site and there are literally hundreds of really excellent photos there. Well worth the effort to look through. www.nzsnaps.com
