The next trial will be at Flea Bay on the 23rd of May.

As with last year we will meet at the corner of Onuku Rd and Lighthouse Rd at 10 am and ride our bikes into the bay.

The road is strictly 4wd only and is a bit rough in places. There will be a couple of 4wd going in so they can your take lunch and spare fuel. I have spoken to Francis and he says we may be able to use the first valley beside the old cottage which is where we used to hold trials a few years ago.

The long range forecast is for clearing weather so hopefully we won't have a repeat of last years snow!

Hope to see a good turn out for what I'm sure will be a great day.

Hi everyone,

Just a friendly reminder to you all that if you haven't yet entered the Kaikoura 3 day it would be a good idea, also I had a phone call from the Lazy Shag and he is closing off the accommodation to the club at the end of next week (Friday night) so if you would like to book it please get on and do it now. Please pass this on to anyone that is interested in your club.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Kaikoura trial.

36 Riders contested a cracker of a weekend for rounds Three and Four held in the “Trials Heaven” town of Alexandra.  The weather was great and the company was even better.

Day one started off a little chilly with a cool breeze in the air which lasted most of the day, but when the sun peeked out behind the clouds during the day made it all worth while. Day two was an excellent day, with a slight frost first thing the day turned out beautifully with no wind and all day sunshine!  Good for those observers who braved the cool wind the day before.

Karl Clark from Motueka took out Expert Grade and goes into the last rounds with a good championship point lead.  Second place going to Wellington’s rider Carl Robson, who stepped up to Expert Grade to challenge himself and he showed good form.

A Grade class was taken out by Invercargill rider Brad Hibbs and rode extremely well and was unfortunate that he couldn’t make the first two rounds in Blenheim as he would have been a strong contender.  Overall championship point leader for A Grade Blake Fox, Gas Gas 125cc, from Dunedin had a strong two second finishes over the weekend.  Third spot went to Nelson rider Cullum Anderson.  All these riders will be ones to keep an eye out for in the New Zealand Championship in October.

Jason Hibbs took out Intermediate Grade with a strong win.  Second place went to Christchurch rider Glenn Smith and also from Christchurch a fantastic ride from Paul Jackson to take out third.

Daniel Clark from Motueka won Clubman Grade and was his second major Championship event ever ridden and is looking forward to stepping up a class next year.  Second place went to Gordon Anderson from Nelson and third place went to Daniel Spencer.

Motueka rider Brady Inwood won both days in the Junior Class over the up and coming rider David Trewin from Kaikoura.

President Grade was won by Ross Bristol, and Nigel Shilton making the trip down from the North Island to take out second place and Mark Sidebotham taking out third place.

What a fantastic weekend held be the Southern Trials Club and it was good to get the round done before the cold snap arrived, all Moto Trials riders look forward to coming down that way.

Until next time

Debbie Clark

With the summer series successfully completed it was time to get into our monthly trials again.

Brent, Stef and Shirley did a beaut job at Purau (lower farm) for the relaunching of the Luxton Memorial team challenge.

This trophy is quite old and was originally competed for as an interclub competition in the days when Christchurch had more clubs. So rather than let the shield accumulate dust in the trophy cupboard it was decided to resurrect it with a challenge amongst club members. Teams were chosen by working through the various grades taking an experienced rider with less experienced so mentoring would help get the team through with minimal points lost. The 3 man team with the lowest accumulated points lost was deemed the winner.

Sections included a wide variety of terrain. 1&2 were in the dry creek bed with its dry powdery banks. No 3 was probably the toughest with many log crossings and tight approaches. The remainder meandered there way in and out of the rocks/banks up the stream and although there had been overnight rain, traction was primo and the rocks dry.

We all had a great day and at the end it was Ross, Jon and Mel who came away with the goods. Also we were able to give away a tyre that Brendon from Nelson Marlborough Trials Centre donated  for one of the younger up and coming members. With Bradley and David riding different grades it was decided on a coin toss with Bradley reaping the spoils. I am sure it will be well used next time we see it.

Cheers Ross B
